(More customer reviews)I like this chair much better than the ones where you sit high up off the ground with your legs straight out, and your feet are secured by only your toes under a single set of pads.
I also like the fact that the support pad is declined "backwards". I believe this is a more natural position and allows for great, safe, natural, range of motion, with less stress on your lower back. Especially since the legs are not pointing straight out, like in other models. Most pads are horizontal, or worse, inclined "forwards", which is OK if doing hyperextensions for the back, but it's not ideal for doing abdominal work. Most "Roman Chair / Hyperextension" combo machines (the ones that are for both back and abs) are more user friendly for the Lower Back when doing hyperextensions. But not so user friendly for the abs, especially if you are just an average Joe starting out (as opposed to the fitness models shown standing next to the machines). I particularly believe if you are overweight, especially if heavy, you really want to pick the right machine for ab work. A poorly designed machine will stress the lower back even more, disproportionally, the heavier you are. This machine is great for beginners or advanced users. It's also much easier to grab an olympic plate off the floor while using this model, because it sits low to the ground, and you can do sit-ups with the plate across your chest. If you are just starting out, keep your hands low, near your hips. As you progress you can raise your arms up higher, eventually over your head, to add "weight" to the exercise. Eventually adding weights if you want. The unit is also very compact, lightweight, and stores easier than most models. It's quite rugged, and very stable while using it. Assembly was a cinch. No complaints. I highly recommend this model. Note: if you are very tall, over 6 ft, it is possible to hit your head on the ground if you swing back wildly. Just be mindful of that.
